Manifest Destiny
Overview
Manifest Destiny refers to an ideology in U.S. history, that the United States territorial expansion westward was pre-destined or divinely enabled.[1] These exhibits do not make this claim, but focus on the ideologies and activities of Euro-American explorers, missionaries, and settlers in Southern Utah.
- Explorers: Early Euro-American explorers, including the Dominguez-Escalante expedition and Mountain Men
- Indian Missions: Missionary Activities among the Southern Paiute peoples by missionaries and settlers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
- Farming Towns: Political turmoil, the Mountain Meadows Massacre, and initial attempts at town-building and agriculture in Washington County by Latter-day Saint settlers.
